I am addicted. I spend hours nestled on my couch browsing through Pinterest.
It is awesome and every day I add more and more projects, recipes and ideas to my boards of things I want to do and want to remember. I guess there could be worst things to be addicted to?!?
Don't you think.

Today I'd like to share some of my fall finds for Halloween and Thanksgiving.

State Wall Art {Tutorial}

A good friend of mine recently moved 'home'. I wanted to do something for her and her husband that was meaningful so I created this wall art for them.

How to make your own state wall art?
I used my Silhouette, which made it easy to cut out the states and stars but you don't have to own a Silhouette to make this project.

Simply find the state(s) clipart online and print them out.
Trace and cut them out of scrapbook paper.
I layered the states with two colors to help the state stand out a little bit from the stripped background.
Add stars for the cities where you've lived, where your kids were born, etc.
For a little dimension I added the foam dots {I'm sure there is a more technical name for this item but that escapes me} to raise the stars.

Have fun!

I'm Back & What I've Learned While on Bed Rest

I have been a bad blogger. I can't believe it's been almost a month since I last posted.
I want to post but my mind has been on vacation.
I blame it on bed rest. When you are told to be lazy then everything becomes a momentous task...
you'd think it would be the other way around, like I'd have all this energy to post
but that has not been the case.
So, yes, I'm on bed rest. I sleep, watch TV and read. Over the past few weeks I think I've watched more TV than I do in a year. I have a learned a few things that I'll share with you.

What I've learned while on bed rest...
In the Kitchen
1. When squeezing a lemon or lime for the juice squeeze it cute/seed side up to your hand. That way you won't get seeds in your food. Thank you Rachael Ray.
2. Pampered Chef's Deep Covered Baker is the BEST! I was able to make Rush Hour Chicken Fajitas in 15 minutes and they tasted great. {Time is of essence when I'm not suppose to be up,
shhh don't tell my doctor.}
What's that you say? Who can you purchase a Deep Covered Baker from? How about my friend Kelly? Click here to go to her site.
3. Eat full fat milk and yogurt, it helps attack bad fat in your body. When you take the fat out of dairy products all you are left with is sugar. {Per Dr. Oz on The Nate Show}
Around the Home
1. Organize your spices with the As Seen on TV Swivel Store {available at Bed, Bath & Beyond for $19.99, don't forget to use the $5 off coupon}
For You, Ladies
1. When applying mascara sweep the mascara/lashes inward to make you look more awake. {I figure this will be a VERY useful tip for myself in the upcoming months caring for twin babies.} If you want a night time look sweep your mascara/lashes outward. {once again, thanks Rachael Ray}
Useless or Useful Info {You Judge}
1. Use an ice cube after your run a line of caulk to even it out {courtesy of Real Simple, August 2011}

I guess that you can learn something while watching TV.

I Heart Money Saving

I finally did it. I figured out how to successfully coupon at Walgreens. If you didn't see my post yesterday you should go back and read it {I really think it will help clarify some things. Couponing at Walgreens is tricky but if you know their policy you can make it work.

That's right, I got bleach, toothpaste, milk, candy corn, bubble envelopes and paper plates for {drum roll please} $2.11! Can you tell I'm excited?

Here is how my purchase worked this week.

Bleach {Limit 3, I purchased just one bottle}
99¢ with Walgreen's circular coupon

Crest 3D Toothpaste
Sale Price = 2/$5
Get $3 Register Rewards
Use a 50¢ coupon from the 7/31 P&G
Use a 75¢ coupon from the 7/31 P&G
Total paid today $3.75 {but I earned $3 in Register Rewards to use on my next purchase}

Scotch Envelopes {Limit 3, so I bought 3}
39¢ with Walgreen's circular coupon

Paper Plates {Limit 3, I purchased just one pack}
99¢ with Walgreen's circular coupon

Brachs Candy Corn
Sale Price = 2/$3
Get $1 Register Rewards
Use the $1/2 coupon from the 8/7 SS

Milk
{not on sale but we needed it and I had enough Register Rewards to nearly cover my whole purchase}
$2.39

Total Before Coupons = $18.86
Money Saved with Coupons = $7.57
Used $10 in Register Rewards
Out of Pocket = 1.29 {plus tax = $2.11}

In order to make this purchase work I had to have as many items as I had manufacturers coupons. I had three manufacturers coupons from previous Sunday papers and four Register Rewards {which count as manufacturers coupons}. It doesn't matter the price of your additional items but in the end you need an item for each manufacturers coupon in order for the Register Rewards to work.

Couponing at Walgreens 101

Walgreen's is tricky, I'm not going to lie. I've had my share of irritation with how they work and the cashiers are less than helpful many times in explaining. Live and learn. I've found it is best to educate yourself completely. At first I was intimidated by the word 'coupon policy' thinking it was this  lengthy legal document but it really isn't that bad and can be very useful to you.

Here are a few things to know that will be sure to help you survive shopping and couponing at Walgreens.

1. Register Rewards - While you sort of get items for free or close to it because you get register rewards you have to be careful. Register rewards print from a catalina system as a manufacturers coupon. This means that if you purchase an item and use a manufacturers coupon that you clipped from the paper or printed from online you WILL NOT be able to use a register reward for that item.

The general rule of thumb is that the computer needs to see that you have more upc's than coupons. From my understanding it doesn't matter what the price is of the additional items, it could be as low as 5¢. So, add a small item or something you'd use/need like milk or bread so you can use your register rewards.

Example
You buy cereal with the Walgreen's circular coupon 2/$4
You then use a manufacturer's coupon for $1 off/2 boxes
You have a $3 Register Reward but you can not use it because it acts like a manufacturer's coupon.
So, add a pack of gum for 50¢
Now you can use your $3 Register Reward
And you will end up paying 50¢ for your purchase

2. Register Reward Limits - Register rewards have a limit of one per transaction. So, if you are purchasing two bottles of lotion and there is a $4 register reward for the lotion you will only receive one $4 register reward. In order to get both of your register rewards you will have to split your order into two transactions.

3. Stacking Coupons - You can use a Walgreens coupon from the circular and/or monthly coupon book and a manufacturer's coupon together.

4. Order Your Coupons - Manufacturer's coupon first and Walgreens coupon second
Example from Krazy Coupon Lady:

Buy 2 Dentyne Gum, Regular Price $1 Each
Use a manufacturer's coupon for Buy 1, Get 1 Free {or -$1}
Use the Walgreen's circular coupon 2/$1 {or -$1}
Final Price = FREE

Now if you did it the opposite way you'll be paying money.
Buy 2 Dentyne Gum, Regular Price $1 Each
Use the Walgreen's circular coupon 2/$1 {or -$1}
Use the manufacturer's coupon for Buy 1, Get 1 Free {or - 50¢}
Final Price = 50¢

5. Print the Walgreen's Coupon Policy and Carry it With You - This way you can reference it when a cashier tells you that you can't do something and you know you can.

A common issue couponers run into is they are purchasing an item for 99¢ and they have a $1 coupon. The cashier may tell them they cannot use the coupon but according to the store policy they can just adjust the coupon and give you 99¢ off.

If you are like me you are more of a visual learner. I suggest watching the video on Krazy Coupon Lady. It will be VERY helpful for your next shopping trip.

I hope this makes your next shopping experience better at Walgreens. Good luck!

Birthday Cupcake Tower

This past weekend {I know I'm a slacker when it comes to posts lately, sorry} my twin cousins had their birthday party at a park. I thought the best solution for cake time would be cupcakes.
This was my inspiration:

Of course, reality set in and my cupcakes are not as perfect.
Suggestion: Do not use 'creamy' frosting, especially if you will be outside in the heat. I think it was too soft and lead to my leaning tower of cupcakes.

All in all the cupcakes worked out pretty well. It was really easy to decorate them with candy. I was able to get most of the candy at Party City because they have small bags of colored sunflower seeds and other fun goodies. I found this to help a lot because who wants a lot of extra candy.

What you'll need:
2 boxes of your favorite cake mix {and the ingredients to make the cupcakes from the package}
2 cans of frosting
Cupcake liners in different colors {each layer is a different color cupcake liner}
Candy to decorate

Bottom Layer: 17 cupcakes
Layer 4: 8 cupcakes
Layer 3: 5 cupcakes
Layer 2: 3 cupcakes
Top Layer: 1 cupcake
